Who are we

We are a society for collectors of stamps, postal history and associated interests in the High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire area.

Last year we celebrated our 40th Anniversary on the same night as our annual Christmas Dinner at Hazlemere Golf Club on Thursday, 6th December. We invited as many past members as we could find, and we were pleased to welcome back John Collett and David Bird.

The Secretary was able to produce some minutes right back to 1980, and discovered that on 30th April 1987 the Club’s name was changed from Bellfield and Downley Philatelic Society to what it is known as today. He also produced a copy of a newsletter dated October 1982, signed by the then chairman Jack Dutton, who, until recently had still been contributing to the Exchange Packet. The minutes also disclosed that over 40 members used to attend the AGMs in the 1980’s when the club was much larger.

Sadly we are now down to about 20 members, but we are an enthusiastic bunch, and we still have an active programme including several visiting speakers, in the same hall that was used in the 1980’s. That we are still able to run meetings is thanks very much to the larger number of members of earlier years who were able to build up our finances to pay for the hall.
